Florence Freedom season ticket sales to benefit storm victims

 

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - The Florence Freedom are pitching in to help the Northern Kentucky and Tri-State families who have been effected by the recent storms that went through the area last week.

Beginning Monday, March 5, and running throughout the month of March, the team says they are planning on kicking back 25% of season ticket plan sales to benefit the victims of the storms.

Season ticket plans range from $90 for a ten-game pass to $495 for a V.I.P. pass that includes in-seat food service, a parking pass, the ability to email tickets to friends, and tickets that roll over to the next season if they’e not used.

Free weather spotter training in Boone County next week

BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Boone County Emergency Management says Severe Weather Spotter Training will be presented by The National Weather Service on Tuesday February 7th at 7:00 P.M. 

The training session will be health at the Boone County Public Safety Campus, 3000 Conrad Lane, in Burlington.  This training is free and open to the public.  

Participants will learn to recognize severe weather conditions and report them to the National Weather Service. 

Space is limited so those interested need to call to reserve a place at Boone County Emergency Management, 334-2279.

Kentucky says snow crews are ready to go

FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19) - It may be late in the year to hear this message, considering that by this time last December we'd already had several large snows, but the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says its maintenance crews are prepared to combat snow-covered and icy roads whenever they occur. 

Nearly 2,000 KYTC employees are standing by to treat and clear more than 60,000 lane miles of roads. 

“The safety of Kentucky’s roadways is the focal point of our maintenance program this time of year,” Transportation Cabinet Secretary Mike Hancock said.

CVG snow plows rehearse for winter Tuesday

HEBRON, KY (FOX19) - Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport's is holding its annual snow team drill Tuesday in the morning. 

Like highway road teams, the crews need training before the first big snow hits.  The airport has over 30 pieces of snow equipment.  CVG says clearing the airport ramp of snow if the equivalent of clearing 211 football fields, and sweeping one runway is equivalent to clearing 12 interstate lanes for approximately 2 miles.

BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19) - The first-ever national simultaneous test of the federal Emergency Alert System (EAS) is happening this week. Here is Boone County Emergency Management Director Mark E. Ihrig, J.D., CEM is telling his colleagues: 

Next Wednesday, The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in partnership with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The EAS test plays a key role in ensuring the nation is prepared for any type of hazard, and that the U.S.

UNION, KY (FOX19) - There weren't any reports of pots of gold being found in Boone County Sunday, but the rainbow part was definitely there, as Tom Lawler snapped this shot around 8:00 p.m. in Union.

Rainbows can be seen in situations where rain and the sun are both visible in the sky at the same time.  When the sun hits the raindrops, they act as little prisms to create different colors of the spectrum, or what people call "rainbow colors."

Boone County offers Community Emergency Response Team Training

BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19)  The demands of disaster response may overwhelm conventional emergency resources. Following a major emergency, factors such as the number of victims, communication and utility failures, and road blockages may prevent people from immediately accessing emergency services they have come to expect at a moment’s notice through a call to911. People may have to rely on each other for help In order to meet their immediate life saving and life sustaining needs until emergency response professionals arrive.

Boone County is offering its citizens Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training which is designed to help them protect themselves, their families, and their neighborhoods in these emergency situations.
