State says: "Major Delays" on Northbound 75 this weekend.

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Major work on I-75 between the Cut-in-the-Hill and the Ohio river will cause long delays on Northbound 75/71 in Kenton County, while work on the southbound side will also cause delays.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says:

•     This weekend beginning at 11:00 PM on Friday, August 19th thru 5:00 AM on Monday, August 22nd, traffic will be reduced to one lane between the Dixie Highway (Exit 188) and the Brent Spence Bridge. This closure is necessary in order to perform repairs to joints on the Brent Spence Bridge which were not originally part of this project.

Labor of Love Car Show benefits Shriners Hospital

BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Organizers of the annual Labor of Love Car Show, scheduled for Saturday, August 27th at the Boone County Fairgrounds hope to jump start donations for Shriners Hospital.

All models and makes of cars, trucks and motorcycles will be on display.   Gates open at 8:00 a.m.  Registration is from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Awards will be given out at 4 p.m.  The registration fee will be $10 to show your vehicle.  Admission is free but you can place a donation in the Shriners bucket that will be available.

There will be plenty to do:  music by Hot Sounds Mobile DJ Systems, a model car contest, various door prizes, food and lots of family fun.  The Red Rover Van from the Cincinnati Reds will be there from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - The Kentucky Department of Transportation's project for the north end of I-75 in Kentucky continues with more heavy work this weekend.  As usual for weekends on this project, they say "Expect Delays. Use Alternate Routes."

On the northbound side, from at 11:00 PM on Friday, August 12th  thru 5:00 AM on Monday, August 15th, traffic will be reduced to two lanes between the Dixie Highway (Exit 188)  and the Brent Spence Bridge.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet eager to 'Adopt' your student's ideas

FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet today announced the beginning of the 2011 Adopt-a-Highway Poster Contest. Students from across the Commonwealth are invited to submit creative works for use in the Adopt-a-Highway calendar for 2012. The contest is open to all Kentucky students of elementary, middle and high school age.

Exposure to the contest and to the Adopt-a-Highway program provides young people with a sense of ownership in Kentucky's highways and stresses the importance of keeping Kentucky's highways clean and free of litter.

Gateway and TANK Establish Shuttle Service to Gateway Campuses

(FOX19) - Gateway Community and Technical College and TANK today announced an expanded partnership to provide enhanced bus service to all Gateway campuses beginning Aug. 15. The partnership creates a shuttle service between Gateway campuses that is in addition to regular TANK routes.

“We are confident this partnership will provide more convenient transportation service between our campuses,” said Mike Baker, Gateway vice president for business and administrative affairs.

Local officers honored for promoting passenger safety

LEXINGTON (FOX19) - The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety Tuesday honored 141 law enforcement officers, 29 of them from Northern Kentucky, from 122 agencies across the Commonwealth for their efforts to increase the use of seat belts and child restraints. 

The 2011 Governor’s Occupant Protection Awards ceremony was held at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Lexington. Awards were presented to officers with the most occupant protection citations in each agency and division. There are six divisions, based on number of officers within the agency, plus a division for Kentucky State Police.

“Despite a wealth of data showing that seat belts and child restraints save lives, each year hundreds of unrestrained motorists lose their lives on Kentucky roadways,” said State Highway Engineer Steve Waddle, who presented the awards.

Paving continues on 75 and 71

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) – Paving projects continue on I-71 and I-75 in Boone County, while some new work has just been announced for parts of the interstates in Kenton and Campbell Counties.

The Kentucky Transportation has announced new changes to road work on I-75 in Kenton County, along with the all the work that’s already been going on.  

New additions to the projects are underlined:

I-71 SB and NB in Boone and Gallatin Counties

  • Crews will work weekdays only beginning Sundays at 10 pm until Fridays at noon. No weekend work will take place. Lane closure for paving operations will be SB from MP 69.89 (Boone-Gallatin Co.
