Receive a free gift card at Family Dollar grand opening

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Shoppers are invited to the grand opening of a brand new Family dollar store on Burlington Pike at Turfway Road. The company’s latest-generation store design featuring a bright and modern interior will open on Saturday, January 29. The store will feature more than 500 new items – including dramatically expanded grocery and health & beauty selections – with scores of newly added name brands. The first 50 customers receive a $5 dollar gift card.

In addition, shoppers will find more high-quality private brand products, from clothing to household goods.

“There are two key themes that are driving our new store model,” says Howard Levine, chairman and CEO of Family Dollar. “The first is quality. We’re carrying the same well-known brands as the national supermarket and drugstore chains – and we’re pricing them lower.

“The second theme is quantity.

New businesses planned for Cincinnati Mall

New businesses planned for Cincinnati Mall

FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - The new manager of the mall formerly known as Forest Fair says to expect a higher percentage of service businesses and a lower percentage of retail as the new owners redevelop the long-struggling Cincinnati Mall.

Karla Ellsworth, who works for Long-Island based World Properties, says that the mall won't benefit by trying to duplicate the type of stores that are already in Northgate and Tri-County Mall.

Instead, Cincinnati Mall is working on businesses, especially services, that are not in those nearby malls.

She says they are working with Candlewood Suites to bring a suites hotel to the former Steve & Barry's/Elder Beerman space on the south side of the Mall. They are looking for an experienced motel operator to own that business.

Jungle Jim's hiring tour guides

Jungle Jim's hiring tour guides

FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - There are many thousands of people in the world who work as tour guides, but not many of them work at grocery stores.

On the other hand, not many grocery stores are like Jungle Jim's International Market.

The jungle-themed animatronic-laden multiethnic grocery is hiring people to lead tour of the store, which are offered to groups on a pre-scheduled basis.

The store says that a lot of different types of people lead tours, from retired people to those who just like to work a crowd.

The common element is an ability to learn about the store, a flexible schedule that allows work on weekdays, and the gift of gab.

The paid tours have been booked by groups ranging from classes and summer camp for little kids to out-of-town grocery executives.  The 5 dollar tours include samples, gift certificates, and plenty of room for motorcoach parking.

Candidates to be tour guides should apply in person at Jungle Jim's on Route

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Florence Police and Boone County Deputies are looking for a couple who went on a shopping spree on Christmas Eve.  The credit card they were using belonged to someone else.

In two hours and 45 minutes, the couple made thousands of dollars worth of purchases at Wal-Mart, Toys-R-Us, a Speedway gas station, and 9 stores inside the Florence Mall.

The initial pictures the police were able to get are very small.  If the couple isn't identified over the New Year's weekend, police may be able to get larger pictures or video next week.
