Kroger provides details, asks you to check for recalled beef products

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Kroger Co. stores in the Cincinnati and Dayton areas are asking customers to check their refrigerators and freezers for 5 lb. chub Kroger Ground Beef 73% Lean 27% Fat and Kroger Beef Patties with a "best before or freeze by" date of September 12, 2011. 

This ground beef is part of a recall announced by Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc. 

Kroger customers can visit www.kroger.com/recall for the list of products subject to the recall sold in Kroger’s family of stores. The Tyson website lists all of the affected products and retailers. 

Kroger has removed affected items from store shelves and initiated its customer recall notification system. Customers who may have purchased the affected products will receive register receipt messages and/or automated phone calls.

Macy's rolling out radio frequency inventory tags

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Downtown-based Macy’s, Inc. announced Wednesday that its Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores are adopting RFID (radio frequency identification) technology on an accelerated timeline to more precisely manage item-level merchandise inventories. By the third quarter of 2012, the company expects to begin using RFID in all stores nationwide to count size-intensive “replenishment goods” – those items regularly stocked and automatically resupplied as they are sold to customers. This represents about 30 percent of the company’s sales.

Macy’s, Inc. will be among the first retailers to implement RFID on a broad national scale. The company has been testing RFID technology for nearly two years in selected Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores and distribution centers.

EDGEWOOD, KY (FOX19) - The new St. Elizabeth CardioVascular Mobile Health Unit will be offering stroke and cardiovascular screenings at locations throughout Northern Kentucky during the month of October.

Sponsored by the Bank of Kentucky, and made possible by the generous support of John C. Holmes, M.D., along with contributions from St. Elizabeth 2008-2010 Vision employee donors, the new mobile health van brings technology and expertise for diagnosing cardiovascular disease, stroke and diabetes to where people live, work and play.

Using state-of-the-art ultrasound technology, the new mobile unit can perform an array of on-site tests aimed at detecting all manner of risky health conditions including carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm and high blood pressure.

IZOD IndyCar stars coming to Florence Friday

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Indianapolis 500 Winner Dan Wheldon will join a lucky Kentucky Speedway fan on a $500 shopping spree from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Florence Mall Macy's. 

Meanwhile, down the road and around a couple corners at the Florence Meijer Store at 4990 Houston Road, IZOD IndyCar Series Team Penske members Ryan Briscoe, Helio Castroneves, and Will Power will greet fans and sign autographs from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 

The first 150 guests arriving at Meijer beginning at 6:30 p.m. will be issued a wristband and guaranteed an autograph as well as a free two liter of the Coca-Cola product of their choice. Limit one autographed item per person. Guests age 21 and older will be able to ride in an authentic IZOD IndyCar Series racecar in the Meijer parking lot from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Guests will receive rides on first-come, first-served basis.

The Northern Kentucky Health Department says people should take advantage of that by getting one soon.

State offers tree seedlings at bulk prices

FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19) - With fall just around the corner, state foresters are encouraging Kentuckians to plan their tree-planting activities now by ordering tree seedlings through the Kentucky Division of Forestry (KDF). 

Nearly 50 species including white pine, baldcypress, black walnut, white oak, yellow-poplar, dogwood, redbud and many more are available by calling toll free 1-800-866-0555.  Order forms are also available on-line at http://forestry.ky.gov.

The trees are available as bare-root seedlings in bundles of 10 or 100 and range in price from $24 to $45 per bundle.  The seedlings are lifted at two state tree nurseries in Marshall and Morgan counties and delivered at your request from winter to early spring.

Seedlings are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, therefore it is advised to place orders as soon as possible.
