Kids raise money to help other kids, meet cute toddler who was helped | People
HEBRON, KY (FOX19) - Kids from North Pointe Elementary School's second grade $1,270.35 in a Valentine's Day fundraiser to support an organization called Josh Cares, and met little Presley Pierce, a toddler that was helped by the group.
Josh Cares provides professionally trained Child Life Fellows to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. A Fellow's job is specifically to comfort and offer companionship to critically ill children residing at the hospital. When a parent or family member is unavailable to be with a child during hospitalization, a trained Josh Cares Fellow ensures that a child is never alone.
To help encourage student sales for the Valentine Grams Fundraiser and to teach students about Josh Cares, teachers invited guests to speak to the second grade students. Sarah Pierce, a North Pointe parent, and her toddler son, Presley, visited students to tell them first-hand about their experience and to show students how well Presley has grown up despite spending the first three months of his life in the hospital.
Sarah told the students that she strongly believes that her son's success is the result of great doctors and the Josh Care Fellows who looked out for Presley during all of his hospital stays. Josh Cares representative Joy Blang also shared her excitement for North Pointe's Candy Gram project because it was the first Valentine's Day fundraiser for Josh Cares.
As a result, students exceeded teachers’ expectations.
