Customs intercepts opium hidden in gears from Turkey

US Customs and Border Protection officers working at the DHL hub at CVG say they have intercepted 13 pounds of opium hidden in plastic gears coming in from Turkey.

Officers found the opium concealed within plastic gears coming from Turkey in a box labeled "yarn machine parts." The box contained eight small black plastic gear cylinders.

When officers x-rayed the box, the image revealed anomalies in the cylinders. Upon further inspection, officers discovered a black tarlike substance that tested positive for opium.

US Customs and Border Protection says the shipment weighed over 13 pounds and was addressed to a location in Canada. The investigation is ongoing.

Ky. lawmaker proposes bill to penalize those who delay reporting missing children

In the wake of this week's conclusion in the Casey Anthony murder trial in Florida, Kentucky State Rep. Richard Henderson is pre-filing legislation that would make it a felony for those who fail to report children 12 and under who have been missing more than 12 hours.

Would you support such a law? Talk about it on our Facebook page.

"My bill will hopefully help us avoid situations like Casey's daughter Caylee, whose disappearance went unreported for so long," said Rep. Henderson, D-Jeffersonville.  "I want to make sure that parents, guardians or anyone who is responsible for a child understands there are serious repercussions if they choose to delay filing a report."

House Speaker Greg Stumbo called Rep. Henderson's proposal "a very good idea."
