Utility work starts for KY 237 widening project | News

BOONE COUNTY, KY (FOX19)- The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) began utility work this
week for the new KY 237 Camp Ernst Road Interchange, located in Boone County.
The work comes as part of a KY 237 widening project.

On Tuesday, crews were moving utilities at the site to make way
for the next section of the project. Construction work is scheduled to begin
this spring.

According to officials, the new interchange will be one of the
most involved in Boone County, with Camp Ernst Rd (KY 237) going over
Burlington Pike (KY 18) with the construction of a bridge. In addition, it will
have multi-use pathways for walkers and cyclists.

"We are excited to begin construction on the second section
of KY 237," said Rob Hans, Chief District Engineer for KYTC District 6. "The
project's biggest focus will be the Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) at
the Camp Ernst Road and KY 18 intersection; which is the first one constructed
in our northern Kentucky district." 

KYTC says more than 40,000 cars travel through the intersection
daily, and with the SPUI system, traffic flow will be uninterrupted.

The entire reconstruction project will
cover a 1.35 mile section of KY 237, from Rogers Lane to Burlington Pike. The
first section was completed in December, at Pleasant Valley Road. According to
KYTC, the remaining section is not yet funded. Once finished, it will complete
the new 4.7 mile KY 237 corridor, and connect Rose Petal to Rogers Lane. 

KYTC officials say the project was awarded to L-M Asphalt Partners
LTD of Lexington, for its low bid of $22.4 million.

The completion date of the project is scheduled for the summer of
2015.
