Kentucky holds mandatory meetings for agencies wanting Homeland Security grants

FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19) - The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security (KOHS) has scheduled workshops across the state to assist agencies in preparing applications for State Homeland Security Program (SHSP) grants.

Two of the workshops are in Northern Kentucky, with a third not terribly far away in Frankfort.

Due to revised SHSP application issues, KOHS says they are requiring attendance at one of eight state-wide application workshops for those local government units who intend to make application for FFY 2012 funds.

Applications from city, county or special districts that do not have at least one representative at one of the workshops will not be accepted. KOHS says this is not to imply that the application process has become more complicated, but with the current funding levels received by the Commonwealth, it is important to be aware of the information provided at these workshops.

There is no registration for these workshops (all times local):

CVG to reopen Concourse A Tuesday

HEBRON, KY (FOX19)- CVG is reopening the newly renovated Concourse A on Tuesday.

The Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport spent $36.5 million renovating the concourse after Delta pulled out of the area in May 2010.

The new concourse will include new ticket counters, an end seat or seat next to a desk at every gate, a plug in every seat, and a Sam Adams brewery. CVG CEO Candace McGraw is also hoping that the addition of new terminals at the airport will lower prices.

"We'll have the ability to have our existing carriers grow using some of that additional gate capacity," she said. "We have the ability to attract new businesses to come in now and lease space in Concourse A. We'll have the facilities available for them to operate from."

The new concourse will also have a universal business lounge and art work representing local history.

Cincy water gets a clean bill of health

Cincy water gets a clean bill of health

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- Greater Cincinnati Water Works' (GCWW) 2011 Water Quality Report shows its water met or exceeded every health standard developed by both the USEPA and Ohio EPA.

On average, GCWW treats about 133 million gallons of water a day and conducts about 600 tests daily throughout the water treatment process.

The utility draws its source water from the Ohio River and the Great Miami Aquifer near Fairfield.

GCWW is in the process of constructing an ultraviolet disinfection (UV) treatment facility to further enhance water quality and protect against potential micro-organisms like cryptosporidium.

UV disinfection, which does not use chemicals or produce regulated disinfection by-products, will be used following sand filtration and granular activated carbon adsorption during GCWW's water treatment process.
