American Legion Riders bring Teddy bears along for the ride

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - The American Legion Riders' Teddy Bear Run is an event involving local motorcycle riders with Teddy Bears attached to the back of their bikes.

They will ride from the American Legion Post on Highway 42 in Florence to St. Elizabeth Hospital West and donate in excess of 1000 Teddy bears to the children in the hospital. They expect 300-400 bikers. This is only the second year of the event and it has gone well beyond their expectations.

The run begins at American Legion Riders Post 4, 8385 U.S. Highway 42, Florence, Kentucky 41042 and benefits St.

The app has been specifically designed to be user friendly, interactive, educational, and informative. Following is a list of features offered with the app:

Emergency Care – Find an emergency department, a St. Elizabeth Physicians after-hours clinic or an orthopaedic and sports medicine after-hours clinic using this GPS technology feature.

Locations – Search through all St. Elizabeth Healthcare locations, including St. Elizabeth Physicians and affiliate offices, to find a specific location or specialty near you.

Find a Doctor – Find any primary care physician or specialist associated with either St. Elizabeth Healthcare or St.

Labor of Love Car Show benefits Shriners Hospital

BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Organizers of the annual Labor of Love Car Show, scheduled for Saturday, August 27th at the Boone County Fairgrounds hope to jump start donations for Shriners Hospital.

All models and makes of cars, trucks and motorcycles will be on display.   Gates open at 8:00 a.m.  Registration is from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Awards will be given out at 4 p.m.  The registration fee will be $10 to show your vehicle.  Admission is free but you can place a donation in the Shriners bucket that will be available.

There will be plenty to do:  music by Hot Sounds Mobile DJ Systems, a model car contest, various door prizes, food and lots of family fun.  The Red Rover Van from the Cincinnati Reds will be there from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Gateway, Community Agencies Sponsor Health and Wellness Fair Aug. 25 at Gateway's Urban Center

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19)  – Gateway Community and Technical College and numerous community agencies will offer a “Gateway to Wellness: Health, Wellness and Community Resource Fair” on Thursday, Aug. 25, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Gateway’s Urban Center, 525 Scott Blvd., in Covington.

The fair will offer health services and a wealth of information on community resources to assist not only with health and wellness but also employment, education, housing, childcare and similar topics.

On-site, no-cost mammograms will be available. Mammogram participants will receive a $10 Kroger gift card, compliments of the Northern Kentucky Women’s Cancer Coalition. Those interested in a mammogram should call 859-655-7400 to reserve an appointment for Aug. 25. Private insurance will be billed and all co-payments/out-of-pocket expenses will be paid through a grant from Susan G.

(FOX19) - The new St. Elizabeth CardioVascular Mobile Health Unit will be offering stroke and cardiovascular screenings at locations throughout Northern Kentucky during the month of August.

Sponsored by the Bank of Kentucky, made possible by the generous support of John C. Holmes, M.D., along with contributions from St. Elizabeth 2008-2010 Vision employee donors, the new mobile health van brings technology and expertise for diagnosing cardiovascular disease, stroke and diabetes to where you live, work and play.

Using state-of-the-art ultrasound technology, the new mobile unit can perform an array of on-site tests aimed at detecting all manner of risky health conditions including carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm, high blood pressure and abnormal blood glucose levels.

EDGEWOOD, KY (FOX19) - The St. Elizabeth Healthcare Foundation will hold its annual Style Show and Luncheon on Monday, November 21, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will take place at the Cincinnati Airport Marriott at 2395 Progress Drive in Hebron, KY.

The schedule includes:

• 10 a.m.—Doors open for shopping
• 12 p.m.—Lunch is served
• 12:45 p.m.—Style Show
• 1:30 p.m.—Prize drawings
• 1:45 p.m.—Shopping continues until 3 p.m.

The 2011 Style Show will feature speaker Dr. Ward Rice, Director of Newborn Services at St. Elizabeth Healthcare and Director, Neonatology Fellowship Training Program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.  Liz Bonis, Anchor Local 12 WKRC-TV, will serve as event emcee. EDGEWOOD, KY (FOX19) - The Kentucky Department for Public Health and St. Elizabeth Healthcare are partnering to decrease the occurrence of pertussis cases (whooping cough) in Northern Kentucky by offering free vaccines to mothers, caregivers and other close contacts of infants.

The Pertussis “Cocooning” Program provides free tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine for all mothers who deliver at St. Elizabeth Healthcare as well as immediate family members and caregivers over the age of 18 who are regularly in contact with the newborn.  The program provides a “cocoon” of immunized caregivers to protect the newborn from being exposed to pertussis before he or she is old enough to be vaccinated.
