EDGEWOOD, KY (FOX19) - The Northern Kentucky Helath Department has received national accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board.

To receive accreditation status, the Health Department had to undergo a rigorous, multi-faceted, peer-reviewed assessment process.

“Northern Kentucky has a top-notch health department, and being among the first in the nation to achieve accreditation is a testament to the quality of services that we provide,” said Lynne M. Kentucky Health Issues Poll: Higher income people report better health; more adults in poverty

Kentucky Health Issues Poll: Higher income people report better health; more adults in poverty

KY (FOX19) - Having health insurance is an important factor in being able to get needed health care. Since 2008, the Kentucky Health Issues Poll (KHIP) has been tracking health opinions and the health status of adults in the state. KHIP is funded by The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati and the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky.

Since KHIP began, people with higher incomes have consistently reported better health status. Nearly 6 in 10 Kentuckians living above 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL) reported being in “excellent” or “very good” health since 2008. This compares with about 2 in 10 Kentuckians living below 100% FPL and about 3 in 10 living between 100% and 200% FPL. Kentucky is not alone.

Health Department working to make flu vaccine available in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY, KY (FOX19) - With more than 1,000 cases and one death from flu reported in Northern Kentucky so far, the Northern Kentucky Health Department is emphasizing that it is important-and not too late-to seek out the flu vaccine, and sharing details of how Northern Kentucky residents can get vaccinated at the Health Department.

Flu vaccines, in shot form only, are available by appointment at the Health Department's county health centers. The Health Department is charging $20 for the vaccine, but no one will be turned away for inability to pay.

Some may have the fees reduced and even eliminated through either a federal program providing vaccines to children; or for individuals covered by health insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.
