Cincinnati Playhouse Presents "War" at Boone County Public Library | Events

BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Cincinnati Playhouse will present “War” at Boone County Public Library, 1786 Burlington Pike, Burlington, on Tuesday, February 7, from 6:30-8 p.m.

A post-show discussion with the actors and local teen leaders will follow. Due to the intense topics discussed, the play is suggested for teens and adults. The performance is free.

     This powerful play examines how aggression and violence permeate youth culture as four young men struggle with the pressures of competitiveness, anger and vulnerability. Dennis Foon, one of Canada’s leading young-adult playwrights, interviewed teens, social workers and violent offenders to write this drama about how boys use war as a metaphor for their lives — on the street, in school, in sports and in their relationships with the opposite sex. The playwright uses invented language to stand in for harsh slang, creating a poetic and highly theatrical experience. Performances will include a facilitated talkback to help steens articulate and respond to the issues of the play. According to Foon, “The propensity for aggression and teenage violence is the premise of this hard-hitting drama that scrutinizes the darker side of being a teen in today’s society. War provides an excellent platform for teens to discuss the underlying causes and effects of violence within their own community.”
