A video was posted on You Tube on Wednesday of staff and the mascot of the Boone County Public Library doing the popular dance.

YMCA Camp Ernst looking for teens for summer crew leadership program

BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19) - YMCA's Camp Ernest in Burlington is looking for crew members to join their leadership program.

Interviews will be held Tuesday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 6, 2013 to be considered. Teens entering the tenth grade in fall 2013 are eligible for the program, designed to help develop leadership skills.

“As the Crew coordinator, it is exciting to see the kids develop their own skill sets, then come together to work as a team,” said Becki Bleikamp, program coordinator.  She said Crew members form a tight-knit team during camp, while performing kitchen duties and working on facility projects.  She added, “It is refreshing to see the teens step out of their comfort zone and form friendships with people they would not usually meet, unless they were at camp.”

City of Florence hosting Youth in Government Night

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - The City of Florence will host its annual Youth in Government Night on Tuesday, February 26 from 5-7pm inside the Community Rooms of the Florence Government Center.

The program is open to all ages and will provide those who attend an opportunity to learn about the role local government plays within their community.

City departments will provide presentations of its role in the local government process and students can learn the legislative duties of the Mayor and City Council.

The event will continue during the weekly Florence City Council meeting at 7pm in the Council Chambers. Mayor Diane E. Whalen will recognize those in attendance.

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Presidents Day is on Monday, February 18 and the City of Florence is putting on a display for residents and their families to enjoy.

Anyone can view the display of United States Presidents, Vice Presidents, and First Ladies and answer trivia questions throughout the business day from 9am to 4pm. This year’s theme is “Two-Term Presidents.”

The Florence Government Center is located at 8100 Ewing Boulevard.

Gateway schedules activities to observe Black History Month

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19)  – Gateway Community and Technical College is observing Black History month with activities designed to appeal to students, the community, job-seekers and more.

“Celebrating the contributions of African Americans to U.S. society enables us not only to pay homage to Black History, but also allows us to emphasize that  everyone is welcome on our campuses,” said Michael Lee, Gateway director of inclusion and cultural initiatives.

Gateway will host Super Sunday, a minority recruitment fair, Feb. 24, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Urban Center. Members of Gateway faculty and staff will provide information on admissions, enrollment, financial aid, and academic programs. The event is free and open to the public.

(FOX19) - Tri State girl scout troops are preparing to set up shop at your local grocery stores, retail businesses and banks.

Cookie booth sales begin on Friday, February 15.

Customers who buy five packages of cookies will receive a coupon and have the opportunity to enter a contest on our website to win five cases of Girl Scout cookies. The QR Code on the coupon will take customers to correct spot online. The contest ends Thursday, March 21.
