Cast your vote to help disabled child in Gallatin County

KY (FOX19) - The National Mobile Awareness Month website has placed a disabled Gallatin County child in the running to receive a new van that comes with a lift.

Nolan, from Warsaw, suffers from Sydenham’s Chorea, 5q chromosome deletion, that gives the 12-year-old frequent seizures and cardiac issues.

Nolan's need for the van with a lift was described by his mother:

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - The City of Florence will hold their annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 30 at the home of the Florence Freedom.

The free program is sponsored by the Florence Police Department and held in conjunction with the Florence Freedom.

Costumed characters will be on hand for photographs with the children at 11am followed by the egg hunt at noon (conducted by age groups: 3 & under; 4-6; 7-9).

The UC Medical Center Stadium is located off Freedom Way.

UNION, KY (FOX19) - The City of Union has partnered with two local scout troops for the 4th Annual Good Friday Fish Fry –Scout Troops 805 & 702 will be making this an annual fundraiser. 

The menu includes:

  • Fish and Shrimp dinners w/2 sides   $8.00
  • Pork BBQ available
  • Cheese Pizza Dinner (1 slice w/ 1 side) $3.00
  • Sides include:  Fries, Mac and cheese, and cold slaw
  • Sandwiches only  $5.00
  • Dine and Carry Out available

The fish fry will be held at the Union Community Building (formerly the old firehouse) 10087 Old Union Road.

NKY Vistors Bureau reports economic growth in 2012

KY (FOX19) - Northern Kentucky made a huge impact with visitors and tourism in 2012.

Officials at the Northern Kentucky Convention & Visitors Bureau reported in their annual meeting that the total impact of visitor spending during 2012 in Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties increased from $298.5 million in 2011 to $325.8 million in 2012.

Additionally, hotel occupancy in Northern Kentucky grew by 2.6 percent over 2011.

The Bureau’s complete 2012 annual report will be posted on its website, www.NorthernKentuckyCVB.com, beginning March 22.

Hebron mother creates website for son battling rare disease

HEBRON , KY (FOX19) - The mother of a nine-month old baby battling a rare liver disease has set up a website in hopes of finding a donor.

'A Liver for RJ' is the name of the website set up by Stephanie Davis.

Stephanie's son RJ has a liver disease called biliary atrisa which is caused when the common bile duct between the liver and the small intestine is blocked or absent.

RJ needs a liver transplant to avoid irreversible liver damage. He is on the national organ donor registry, but there is no telling how long the wait may be for a donor.

Conner High School helping provide for Boone County's less fortunate

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - The Conner High School Marketing class is preparing for their first Community Action Commission drive. 

The Community Action Commission provides a variety of items for less fortunate people in Boone County. Students and staff at the school are going to focus on collecting personal items to assist people in preparation for future employment.

As a school, they would like to collect and donate the following basic necessities: bars of soap, toothbrushes, razors for men and women, female maxi pads, combs, deodorant, shaving cream, shampoo, toothpaste, and toilet paper. 

The drive will take place from March 18th – 29th, during school hours at the Conner campus. 

The CAC is accepting donations at their location: 6555 Nicholas Street Suite, A2 in Florence.
