Gateway Offers SHRM Human Resource Certification Prep Course

FLORENCE, Ky. (June 20, 2012) – The Workforce Solutions Division of Gateway Community and Technical College will offer the SHRM® Learning System human resources professional training course at its Boone Campus beginning Aug. 21.

The SHRM® Learning System Course offers an in-depth overview of key areas in human resource management. Materials include six modules that correspond to the six functional areas, responsibilities, and associated knowledge as defined by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). 

“The SHRM course is a powerful tool to assist people in preparing for the PHR or SPHR certification exams,” said Phil Accardi, director of Gateway’s Center for Workforce Development. “The course provides a solid foundation for managing the HR challenges in today’s demanding work environment.

Gateway Will Offer HVAC CEU Classes in July

FLORENCE, KY (June 22, 2012)—The Workforce Solutions Division of Gateway Community and Technical College has scheduled four continuing education courses in July for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technicians who have journeyman and master license(s).

The four-hour courses will take place on Saturday, July 21, at the college’s Boone Campus. The cost for each course is $60, and lunch is included in the registration fee. The registration deadline is Wednesday, July 18.

Participants must bring a photo ID and HVAC license(s) to class.

From 8 a.m. to noon, the two classes offered are: “Saving Energy @ Work/Workplace Security” and “Customer Service.” “Mold Awareness” and “First Aid, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens” will be offered from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Kentucky license holders take a combination of CEU courses to equal eight hours.

Mazak factory to undergo major expansion

 

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Mazak Corporation announced Thursday that it will significantly expand the company’s North American manufacturing plant in Florence.

The expansion will allow for increased production and support of new and additional Mazak machine models in Kentucky, and increase the facility’s potential production capacity to 200 machines per month to meet surging customer demands.

Coinciding with the growth of its production facility, Mazak is bolstering its customer service and support offerings with expansions to its National Technology Center & Center for Multi-Tasking and Manufacturing Excellence and North American Parts Center. Combined, the three significant expansions will add over 200,000 square-feet to Mazak’s Kentucky manufacturing campus, increasing its total floor space to 800,000 square-feet and positioning it as one of the largest machine tool factories in the country.

Verizon Wireless opening new Florence store

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Verizon Wireless opens its latest “evolution” communications store in Kentucky this week and will celebrate the grand opening on Saturday, June 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visitors to the new Verizon Wireless Communications Store can sample a wide array of fully-activated new basic phones, smartphones, tablets and other devices first hand for a total wireless experience. What’s more, data users can learn how to stay connected in more places with Mobile Broadband service; experience the latest smartphones and tablets on the nation’s largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network; and so much more.

WYGY radio will broadcast live and give someone an opportunity to win Kenny Chesney tickets.

Phantom Fireworks to open first Kentucky showroom in Florence

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Phantom Fireworks, the nation’s premier consumer fireworks retailer, will hold a  grand opening for its new Phantom showroom in Florence.

A grand opening celebration will be held on Monday, June 18 at 5 p.m. with the ribbon cutting ceremony set to take place at 5:30 p.m.

The new showroom, which is Phantom’s first in the state of Kentucky, is located 8125 Mall Rd., just west of Interstate 71/75 from exit 180A.

The new Phantom of Florence showroom will operate year-round and serve Florence and the greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area.
