Gateway's Manufacturing Pipeline Initiatives Judged Best in the Nation

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) – The Workforce Solutions Division of Gateway Community and Technical College has won a national award from the National Council for Workforce Education (NCWE) for the college’s efforts to recruit and prepare workers for manufacturing jobs.

Gateway received the NCWE 2012 Exemplary Program Award for a Credit Workforce Development Program for its Manufacturing Pipeline Initiatives program that offers academic credit for customized skill upgrade training. The initiative uses customized technical and performance skill training, apprenticeship programs, academic advisors at company sites, and career mapping sessions for incumbent workers to expand the pipeline of qualified workers for regional manufacturers. In addition, the college has created several new manufacturing certificates.

Gateway launches three certificates as part of new instructional design program

Covington, Ky. (Dec. 5, 2012) – Gateway Community and Technical College is launching three certificates as part of a revolutionary new Instructional Design and Learning Technologies (IDL) program currently under development at the college.  Registration for the new certificates and the Spring 2013 semester, which begins Jan. 14, are currently under way.

The certificates include Foundations of Instructional Design, Instructional Facilitation and eLearning Developer.  The three are the first offerings in an IDL program being developed under a $4.9 million federal Department of Labor grant in partnership with Covington’s TiER1 Performance Solutions.

When fully implemented, the IDL program will be the first of its kind at the associate degree level in the nation, according to Josh Heinrich, program coordinator.

Gateway Offers SHRM® Certification Prep Course

Florence, Ky. (Dec. 3, 2012) -- Gateway Community & Technical College, through its Workforce Solutions Division, will offer  a human resources professional training program, the SHRM® Learning System Course, beginning February 12, 2013.  

The SHRM® Learning System Course offers an in-depth overview of key areas in human resource management. Materials include six modules that correspond to the six functional areas, responsibilities, and associated knowledge as defined by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). 

Walton based business donates to Cincinnati Children's Hospital

Walton based business donates to Cincinnati Children's Hospital

WALTON, KY (FOX19) - A large donation was given to Cincinnati Children's Hospital on Friday on behalf of the customers, vendors, and industry partners of Steinert US.

Steinert US, a leading supplier of separation equipment for the waste, scrap, and mining industries, presented a check to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in the amount of $26,298.14.The money was raised during a September Charity Golf outing.

Employees of Steinert chose Cincinnati Children’s as this year’s beneficiary based on its dedication to the improvement of child health and its service to children around the world.

Encouraged by the support of its customers and vendors, Steinert plans to continue its charitable giving through annual events.

Gateway will offer Plumbing CEU classes this November

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) —The Workforce Solutions Division of Gateway Community and Technical College has scheduled four continuing education courses for journeyman and master plumbers in November.

The four-hour courses will take place on Saturday, November 17, at the college’s Boone Campus. The cost for each course is $60, and lunch is included in the registration fee. The registration deadline is Wednesday, November 14.

Participants must bring a photo ID and plumbing license(s) to class.

From 8 a.m. to noon, the two classes offered are: “Business Law” and “Motor Controls.” “Flammable & Combustible Liquids/Hazardous Communication” and “Confined Space Awareness” will be offered from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Former Clinton administration official among speakers at Gateway/TA 3 Manufacturing Conference

COVINGTON, KY (September 28, 2012) – Phillip Singerman, assistant secretary of commerce for economic development during the Clinton administration, is one of more than two dozen international, national and local governmental, industry and education leaders headlining an international manufacturing conference here Monday and Tuesday.

Jointly sponsored by Gateway Community and Technical College and the Trans-Atlantic Technology and Training Alliance (TA3), the conference is open for public registration and examines “The Future of Manufacturing: Implications for Education and Training.”

Opening date set for first Kentucky Quaker Steak & Lube

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - The third loctaion in the Tri-State for a restaurant that blends automobiles with food has set a grand opening date.

Quaker Steak & Lube is opening their newest store and first in Kentucky in Florence. The restaurant will open to the public Wednesday, October 3 at 3 p.m.

“We are very excited to open the first Quaker Steak & Lube® in the state of Kentucky, right here in Florence Y’All.  Everyone will have the chance to enjoy live music every Friday night on our outdoor heated patio, amongst a large list of other events and promotions we will be hosting.” said Jim Mills of Paragon Restaurant Group.

Highlights of the Florence Lube, hung from the ceilings and the walls of the restaurant, are a Rolling Corvette Chassis, Dan Weldon’s Indy Car, a Sprint Car, Rusty Wallace’s H-D 2000 NASCAR and more.
