Adoption fees waived Tuesday at Boone Co. Animal Shelter

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- The Boone County Animal Shelter in Burlington is waiving adoption fees on Tuesday for spayed or neutered dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.

The Animal Shelter is taking part in Just One Day, a national event where shelters pledge to adopt out as many animals as possible.

The
Boone County Animal Shelter, 5643 Idlewild Road, will be open on June 11 from noon to 6 p.m.

Back in February, we introduced you to Union resident Randy Phillips, whose 2011 crusade, his debut album “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” sold almost 500 copies and raised nearly $10,000.00 for a fallen Marine’s family.  The article also discussed Phillips’ taste of music, his unique writing style, and the sources which inspire his storytelling in music, one of which was a powerful reflection on Phillips’ bond with his mother and grandmother.

Library and Parks Department partnering on free suimmer concerts

BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Boone County Public Library is partnering with Boone County Parks once again to host some of the Library’s monthly concerts at Boone Woods Park in Burlington.

As part of this partnership, the Main Library, 1786 Burlington Pike, will be the rain site for both the Parks Department’s concerts and the Library’s outdoor concerts.

The Library’s first outdoor concert will be Beatles’ Tribute Band, The Sweet Beats, at Boone Woods Park on Friday, June 15 at 7 p.m. More than 1000 people attended The Sweet Beats concert last summer at Boone Woods Park, so a crowd is expected.  Come early, and bring a lawn chair.

Three injured in Burlington, Ky. accident

BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19)- Injuries were reported following an accident in Burlington, Kentucky early Friday morning.

The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. in the 7600 block of Camp Ernst Road.

A single car with three passengers were involved in the crash. The car rolled during the accident. 

All passengers were taken to the hospital. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

Traffic was temporarily blocked as crews worked to clear the scene.

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - To conclude the Accelerated Reader Program, one student from each first grade thorough the fifth grade class at Florence Elementary was selected to participate at a luncheon at LaRosa’s Pizzeria.

The students were chosen based on point value, percentage correct when testing, and capability which was reflected by their reading success.  Family and friends joined the celebration.

The service and hospitality was excellent, making the students and their families feel welcome.

Third- graders experience being ‘princess for the day’

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Third grade girls at Florence Elementary spent the day receiving royal treatment.  After recently studying fairytale literature, and A.C.E.ing their state test, this was the perfect treat. 

Princess stations included nail painting, making edible nail polish bottles, princess punch, and handmade tiaras.  It was a magical day, and everyone went home “happily ever after”.

Crews battle fire at Florence recycling facility

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19)- Fire crews are battling a fire at a Florence recycling facility.

Flames broke out at around 8 a.m. at Recycling Express in the 7400 block of Industrial Road.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the roof. 

The fire has now been contained. No one was hurt.

FOX19 has a crew on the way and will update this story as we learn more.
