‘Royal Ball’ hosted at the Florence Palace on Center Street

‘Royal Ball’ hosted at the Florence Palace on Center Street

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Mrs. Beth Carpenter and Mrs. Jillian Hurtt’s first grade classes hosted a ‘Royal Ball’ at the Florence Palace on Center Street.  Many royal family members attended the ball including Prince Preston and Duchess Savannah and of course our very own Queen Elizabeth, known as Beth at Florence Elementary.

The classes completed a unit on fairy  tales and fiction, analyzing either make believe or fact, then writing an opinion piece.  The unit theme was ‘Around the world with a glass slipper’.

The two classes danced the day away starting with a curtsy from the girls and a bow from the boys.  The couples moved in slow motion so elegantly, across the royal ball room floor, twirling their partner with great ease. Our royal families dressed in many fashionable styles ranging from a top hat and shorts to looking like a prince.  Tea and crumpets (juice and cookies) was served to refresh our hungry and thirsty dancers.

LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19)- Testimony continued in the trial of a Northern Kentucky man accused of murdering an Indiana woman.

Charles Stephenson faces life in prison without parole for the murder of 67-year-old Leigh Jennings.

Jennings' body was found on April 5, 2012 in her Aurora home. Police say Jennings had actually been killed days before, on March 29.

Investigators believe Stephenson beat Leigh Jennings to death with a pepper grinder and a skillet in her home.

If convicted, he faces life in prison without parole. Prosecutors say the trial is expected to last into next week.

Stephenson is the nephew of Bill and Peggy Stephenson, who were murdered in Boone County in 2011. Their murders remain unsolved, but Stephenson is not a suspect in that case.

Amazing Race Champions

Amazing Race Champions

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Mrs. Simms’ second grade class completed their Accelerated Reader race by going beyond the requirements with each student striving for their own personal best.  Her class earned 1697 points.  That is 447 points above the final point value.

The theme this year was “The Amazing Race” which focused on being mentally and physically ready to run your own race.  The students prepared mentally and the classroom incentives engaged the students in the physical challenges.  Starting off, the class participated in a series of physical exercises. The repetitions were determined by the roll of the dice before putting the movements to music.  The students also enjoyed a healthy snack mix and learned the many benefits of dark chocolate.
