KY's Conway joins attorneys general upset with Google data sharing

KY's Conway joins attorneys general upset with Google data sharing

FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19) - Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway has joined the attorneys general of 35 other states in expressing concern over Google's new privacy policy. In a letter to Google Chief Executive Larry Page, the attorneys general outlined multiple concerns with recently announced changes to Google's privacy policy that is scheduled to automatically go into effect for all users of Google products and services on March 1, 2012.

Greg Zoeller, Indiana Attorney General, has also signed this letter; Ohio's Mike DeWine hasn't.

Conway says this policy change threatens the privacy of those users of various Google products who wish to keep various parts of their online experience separate. It also has the potential to heighten the risk of identity theft and fraud, given that Google will now be storing more extensive personal information profiles.

Kentucky Senate committee approves casino gambling proposal

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Casinos could be built in Kentucky under a proposal that received a thumbs-up from a Senate committee on Wednesday.

The State and Local Government Committee voted 7-4 after hearing testimony from the state's leading casino proponent, Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear.

Beshear has been pressing lawmakers for a constitutional amendment that would allow Kentuckians to wager on more than horse races, which is a longstanding tradition in the Bible-belt state.

Wednesday's vote was the first on the issue since lawmakers convened in early January. The measure now goes to the full Senate for consideration. If approved there, it then would have to be approved by the House before being submitted to voters.

Ky. Senate committee could vote Wednesday on casinos

FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19)- Turfway Park is one of the race tracks that could have a casino built on property if casinos become legal in Kentucky.

One Kentucky lawmaker says he has the votes to take Senate Bill 151 to the ballot. Governor Steve Beshear and State Senator Damon Thayer (R-Georgetown) introduced the bill that if approved, would put five casinos at racetracks and two standalone casinos across the state.

In order to put the bill on the ballot in November, it would require three-fifths approval in both houses, that's 60 State Representatives and 23 Senators. A Senate committee is expected to vote on the bill Wednesday in Frankfort.

Fundraising under way for northern Ky. memorial

CRESCENT SPRINGS, Ky. (AP) - A series of fundraisers to pay for a northern Kentucky 9/11 memorial kicks off next month.

A comedy night called "Stand Up for 9/11" is scheduled for March 23 at Northern Kentucky University.

A Beatles tribute show in April and a golf outing in June will also raise funds for the memorial.

Crescent Springs-Villa Hills Fire & EMS secured a steel beam from the World Trade Center and supporters first planned to create a Kenton County memorial using it.

After meeting with local members of Congress and the state legislature, backers broadened their scope to also include Boone and Campbell counties.

About $10,000 has been raised toward the estimated $150,000 cost of the project.
